KNOWING what you want to do in life is one thing.

Finding out how to do it is another.

It's important that you know exactly what courses and training you need to do, and what the job prospects are in your particular field of interest.

Help with such matters is available from the Career Information Centre network, which offers the largest library of career and course information in Australia.

The Newcastle office provides a free service for anyone requiring this information and advice.

Manager Joy Guy said the centre's information covered more than 1000 occupations.

`This includes descriptions, education and training requirements and job prospects,' she said.

`Viewing a video from our collection can also assist in the information process.'

The centre, located above the Centrelink offices in King St, Newcastle, houses a complete collection of Australian University and TAFE handbooks, as well as course reference directories for all on-site and external studies.

Although the centre does not offer career counselling, its computerised Career Interest Test and other programs can help with the careers search.
