Load Off Minds

TOYOTA has released a loading system designed to ease the backs of those whose job descriptions include filling and emptying light trucks.

Known as the LycoLoader, it is a mechanically operated loading platform that doubles as the tray tailgate.

The LycoLoader can be fitted to most tray-equipped cab/chassis vehicles (regardless of make) and can handle loads weighing up to 300kg.

Made from aluminium for light weight, durability and corrosion resistance, the unit features a safety brake.

Developed by Toyota, the unit won a number of major agricultural awards before going on the market.

Awards to date include the National Farm Invention of the Year, the Society for Engineering in Agriculture Award, the Sheepvention 1997 Major Award and the Victorian Workcover Safety Award.

Toyota spokesman Mr Rory Macdougall said the beauty of the LycoLoader was that it doubled as a tailgate and did not impact on available load space.

Using a simple mechanical wind-up system rather than complicated electrics, it enables one person to do the work of several, and because there is no electric wiring it can be fitted by a competent do-it-yourselfer.
